What makes a classroom experience great? Passionate educators and a whole team working to support them behind the scenes. For the last year, Ann-Michelle has been leading the new strategy for our courseware lecture slides, and we’ve just started redesigning the first title. These renovated slides will give educators better instructional tools and model the kind of professional communication today’s students need to master. We’re building with intention and inspired by your feedback, and we can’t wait to share what’s next.
Since May of 2024 I've been working on an improved strategy and design for Stukent's courseware lecture slides, and this week we hit an exciting milestone: kicking off development of our first title of slides. As an edtech company serving future business and marketing professionals, we have a unique responsibility — and opportunity. Our slides aren't just educational materials; they're examples of the professional presentation standards our students will be expected to meet in their careers. Recently, we received powerful feedback from an educator: "Let's try to incorporate some actual MARKETING & MarCom techniques into the slides. There's very little design expertise. Students who go into marketing fields need more experience/exposure to best-in-class presentation materials." This feedback helped me articulate something I've been thinking about throughout this project: the aesthetic usability effect. This psychological principle shows that people perceive more attractive designs as easier to use and more effective — even when functionality is identical. Here's why this matters for education: Today's students grew up immersed in a world of thoughtfully designed digital experiences. They intuitively understand that professional design signals quality, credibility, and attention to detail. When educational materials look polished and intentional, students are more likely to engage with them, trust the content, and absorb the learning. For marketing students specifically, this is even more critical. They need to see what professional-grade visual communication looks like because they'll likely be creating it themselves soon. Our slides should model the same design excellence we're teaching them to value. We hope to preview the renovation in late 2025, and I can't wait to see how instructors respond to slides that engage rather than sedate and how students respond to materials that truly reflect the professional standards they're preparing to meet. #EdTech #MarketingEducation #InstructionalDesign #StudentExperience #DesignThinking
