When you use the LinkedIn Research Tools, you agree to be bound by the following terms, so please take a few minutes to review them.

1. Overview
1.1 About these Additional Terms for the LinkedIn Research Tools Program
By using the website functionality, applications, software, services, application programming interfaces, documentation, tools, and data that LinkedIn makes available to you as part of the LinkedIn Research Tools Program ("LRT Program”), you are agreeing to be bound by these Additional Terms for the LinkedIn Research Tools Program (“LRT Terms”) and the LinkedIn API Terms of Use (“API Terms of Use”). The LRT Terms are incorporated into the API Terms of Use as “Additional Terms” (collectively, these “Terms”). All capitalized terms not defined herein will have the meaning given to them under the API Terms of Use. Any summaries of these LRT Terms included in the highlighted boxes reference only some of the key provisions of these LRT Terms and are not a substitute for them. As used in these LRT Terms, “Research Tools” means website functionality, applications, software, services, application programming interfaces, documentation, tools, and other functionality that LinkedIn makes available as part of the LRT Program.
If you are accessing any Research Tool on behalf of a company or other entity, you represent and warrant that you have full legal authority to bind it to these Terms.
1.2 Description of the Research Tools Program
As part of the LRT Program, to the extent legally required, LinkedIn is granting researchers the ability to: (a) use the Research Tools in order to obtain certain data from the LinkedIn Services (such data along with all copies, analysis, insights, and derivatives thereof is “Research Data”) for their LinkedIn approved research projects (each, a “Research Project”); (b) analyze Research Data and incorporate it into work product such as reports, articles, and posts (collectively, “Research Work Product”); and (c) make their Research Work Product available to internal or third-party end users (collectively, “Research End Users”).
Your use of any of our Research Tools and Research Data must comply with the relevant technical documentation, usage guidelines, usage limits, and other documentation made available to you (“Research Tools Documentation”), including via the websites associated with the Research Tools (each, a “Research Program Site”).
1.3 Relationship to Other LinkedIn API Terms
To the extent there is a conflict between these LRT Terms and the API Terms of Use or the Additional Terms for the LinkedIn Marketing API Program, these LRT Terms will control. For the LRT Program, any reference in the API Terms of Use to: (a) “Content” or “Content accessed/collected through the APIs” will apply to Research Data; (b) “Application” will apply to each Research Project (including any Research Work Product); (c) “Terms” will apply to the API Terms of Use with these LRT Terms incorporated therein; (d) “API” will apply to each Research Tool; (e) “Users” or “Users of your Application” will apply to Research End Users; (f) “Developer Documentation” will apply to Research Tools Documentation; (g) “Developer Site” will apply to any Research Program Site; and (h) “developer(s)”, “development/develop/developing”, “our developer program” will apply to you/researcher(s), your research, and the LRT Program respectively.
For clarity, the following terms of the API Terms of Use will not apply to your use of the Research Tools: (i) any references to self-serve API programs; (ii) any language prohibiting your aggregation of data across various digital channels on and off of LinkedIn; (iii) Section 2.4 (“API License”); (iv) any obligation to delete Research Data solely as a result of the Research Project no longer being operated; (v) any obligation to include a user agreement or privacy policy in connection with your Research Project or to provide LinkedIn with two full-feature client account-level instances of your Research Project; (vi) Section 7.1(b) (“Suspension of User’s Access”); (vii) Section 7.2 (“Monitoring”) with respect to LinkedIn’s physical access to Systems relating to your use of the Research Tools or Research Data; (viii) any LinkedIn obligation to provide notice in connection with changes to any Research Tool or Research Data (including changes that limit scope, functionality, or availability); (ix) Section 11.3(b) (“Suspension; Termination); and (x) Section 11.5(d) (“Effect of Termination”).
In addition, the following terms of the API Terms of Use only apply to your use of Research Tools that are application programming interfaces: (1) any requirement to register your Research Project on the Developer Site; and (2) any language relating to API access credentials or API tokens.
1.4 Research Tools License
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, to the extent we are required to grant you these rights under applicable law, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable (except to independent contractors so they may create, test, operate, and/or support your Research Project), non-transferable, non-assignable license under LinkedIn’s intellectual property rights to use the Research Tools to create, test, operate, and support your Research Project. You have: (a) no right to distribute or allow third parties to access the stand-alone Research Tools or the raw Research Data (without any analysis); and (b) no additional rights under Section 2.4 (“API License”) of the API Terms of Use.
2. Review of Your Research Projects
2.1 Requesting Access to the Research Tools
Unless otherwise prohibited by applicable law, LinkedIn may require that all aspects of your Research Project (including your organization, the Research Work Product, Research End Users, and the specific Research Tool(s) licensed to you) be vetted and approved by LinkedIn. LinkedIn’s vetting process may also include a review of your privacy and security practices. You must ensure that all information you provide to LinkedIn in connection with any such vetting processes is, at all times, accurate and complete. In particular, you are not authorized to use any Research Tool for any use case other than the Research Project that you specify in connection with your request for access to the relevant Research Tool.
2.2 Changes to your Research Project
You must promptly notify LinkedIn of any change that results in any information you provided to LinkedIn as part of an access request or vetting process relating to the Research Tools becoming inaccurate or incomplete.
2.3 Monitoring your Use of the Research Tools
Even if LinkedIn approves your Research Project (including during the vetting processes), you are responsible for ensuring that your Research Project (including all use, disclosure, and storage of Research Data) is, at all times, in compliance with: (a) these Terms (including the Research Tools Documentation); and (b) all other requirements or restrictions that LinkedIn separately communicates to you (e.g. during or after any relevant vetting processes). LinkedIn retains all of its rights under these Terms (including our right to suspend or discontinue your access to the Research Tools and/or Research Data for non-compliance with these Terms).
3. Use of Research Tools and Research Data
3.1 Research Tool and Data Requirements
Unless such requirements are prohibited by applicable law, you agree not to do the following, other than as expressly permitted (in writing) by LinkedIn:
a. Make any Research Tool (including, if applicable, any Access Credential) available to any third party;
b. Sell, rent, lease, disclose, distribute, share, transfer, license, communicate, or otherwise make available any Research Data to any third party, except to Research End Users via Research Work Product;
c. Retrieve more Research Data than you need for your Research Project;
d. Use any other LinkedIn tool, application programming interface, or any other data from the LinkedIn Services in connection with your Research Project;
e. Use any Research Tool or Research Data: (i) for political campaigns; (ii) for business or commercial purposes; (iii) in any manner that is harmful to Members or otherwise not in their best interests; or (iv) for unethical, false, or misleading purposes;
f. Use any Research Tool or Research Data other than in compliance with all applicable laws, including the Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, DSA), and best practices for research;
g. Allow any of your affiliates to access Research Data in any manner other as specified in your request for access to the relevant Research Data;
h. Make any statement, representation, or warranty to any third party, either directly or indirectly: (i) that relates to LinkedIn, its Services, the LRT Program, Research Tools, or the Research Data and that is inaccurate, fraudulent, or misleading; (ii) suggesting that you are LinkedIn’s strategic, certified, or preferred partner; or (iii) suggesting that LinkedIn endorses or is a partner to your Research Project or your Research Work Product;
i. Use any Research Data to train any artificial intelligence (“AI”) model or otherwise in violation of applicable AI policies;
j. Create any application, tool, service, or functionality as part of your Research Work Product; or
k. Fail to appropriately attribute Research Data to LinkedIn in your Research Work Product.
3.2 Individual Personal Data Requirements
If you receive access to Research Data that is Personal Information (as defined in the LinkedIn Data Processing Agreement for Business Development Agreements) and/or that relates to any individual user’s activities on any LinkedIn Service (collectively, “Individual Personal Data”), without limiting the generality of any other restrictions in these Terms, you must not, other than as expressly permitted (in writing) by LinkedIn:
a. create a database of Individual Personal Data;
b. commingle or combine any Individual Personal Data with any other Personal Information, including for the purpose of supplementing, verifying, or appending to user profiles, leads, or portions thereof;
c. commercialize or sell any Individual Personal Data or make any Individual Personal Data available to any data broker, information reseller, information broker, data monetization service, or similar service;
d. publish, disclose, or otherwise make available any Individual Personal Data (including any data that a third party can trace back to an individual Member) in your Research Work Product;
e. use Individual Personal Data for any use case that is unrelated to your Research Project (including to identify sales or marketing prospects or prospective talent for hire, for lead creation, to enhance customer data in a CRM or marketing automation platform, to build an audience list, or for ad targeting purposes);
f. use any Individual Personal Data other than in compliance with best practices for the handling of Personal Information in research (including data minimization, anonymization, and pseudonymization techniques);
g. use Individual Personal Data to contact any Member; or
h. use Individual Personal Data to derive sensitive information on the relevant individual (including racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, mental or physical health conditions, citizenship or immigration status, or sexual orientation).
For clarity, Individual Personal Data includes: (i) profile data of Members; (ii) any content or information provided by Members (including a Member’s post, comment, or reaction); (iii) Member identifiers (including person URNs/uniform resource names); and (iv) contact data or other Personal Information associated with LinkedIn customer accounts.
As part of your Research Work Product, you shall provide easily accessible online contact mechanisms and clear and concise information regarding your use of Individual Personal Data in connection with your Research Project to: (1) meet applicable legal requirements for processing of Individual Personal Data; and (2) ensure that individuals can contact you and exercise their data subject rights, intellectual property rights, or other proprietary rights in accordance with applicable law (including deletion of their Individual Personal Data).
3.3 Suspension of Research End User Access
You will, at LinkedIn’s request (email acceptable), use appropriate measures to suspend or terminate any Research End User’s access to or use of any or all Research Data if LinkedIn, in its sole discretion, reasonably determines that any of the following abusive events has happened or is likely to occur: (a) such access or use is harmful to Members; or (b) the Research End User is using Research Data in an illegal manner or in violation of any restriction included in these Terms. You will promptly notify LinkedIn if you become aware of any such abusive event.
4. Storage of Research Data
4.1 Right to Store Research Data
Unless otherwise specified in the relevant Research Tools Documentation or otherwise agreed (in writing) by LinkedIn, you must not store or cache Research Data (other than Research Data incorporated into reports, articles, posts, and other similar Research Work Product): (a) in excess of twenty-four (24) hours for any Individual Personal Data; or (b) in excess of one (1) year for any other Research Data. Any data that may be stored pursuant to this Section 4.1 is “Stored Research Data”. You will take appropriate measures (including ingesting compliance events) to ensure that all Stored Research Data is kept up to date. Any Stored Research Data remains subject to these Terms.
4.2 Deletion of Stored Research Data
Except when doing so would cause you to violate any law or obligation imposed by a governmental authority, you will permanently delete (in ten (10) days or less): (a) all Stored Research Data upon LinkedIn’s reasonable written request (email acceptable); (b) any Stored Research Data upon a third party’s request for removal under applicable law (including any law or regulation relating to intellectual property or privacy); (c) any Stored Research Data that is no longer used in your Research Project; and (d) all Stored Research Data upon termination of these LRT Terms or the relevant Research Project (except Stored Research Data incorporated in Research Work Product that is still available to Research End Users). LinkedIn may require you to certify your compliance with the deletion requirements applicable to Stored Research Data.
5. Distribution of Research Work Product
5.1 License to your Research Work Product
You agree to use reasonable efforts to provide LinkedIn with access to a courtesy copy of any Research Work Product at least five (5) business days before access is granted to any third-party Research End User. You grant LinkedIn and its affiliates a worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, fully paid-up, royalty-free, sublicensable, and perpetual right and license to use, copy, create derivative works of, display, publish, and distribute your Research Work Product. This right is limited in the following ways:
a. LinkedIn will not commercialize or sell access to your Research Work Product, although LinkedIn may use findings, excerpts or Research Data from your Research Work Product in reports or analysis for which end users pay for access;
b. LinkedIn’s use of your Research Work Product (in whole or in part) will include proper attribution to you;
c. LinkedIn will not modify the meaning, conclusions, or findings of your Research Work Product; and
d. If you are limiting third-party access to your Research Work Product (e.g. limiting access to certain Research End Users for a period of time) and you inform LinkedIn accordingly, LinkedIn will, in good faith, discuss similar limitations on LinkedIn’s distribution of your Research Work Product.
This license will survive termination of these Terms, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in Section 11.5(a) (“Effect of Termination”) of the API Terms of Use.
6. Duration and Termination
6.1 Duration of LRT Terms
The duration of these LRT Terms will commence on the date you agree to them or the date you start using any Research Tool or Research Data (whichever occurs first) and continue until: (a) you discontinue use of all Research Tools; (b) the API Terms of Use terminate; or (c) these LRT Terms are terminated pursuant to Section 6.2 (“Termination for Convenience”). For clarity, any termination of these LRT Terms will not automatically terminate the API Terms of Use but any termination of the API Terms of Use will automatically terminate these LRT Terms. Neither party will be liable for any costs, expenses, or damages solely as a result of termination of these LRT Terms.
6.2 Termination for Convenience
Either party may terminate these LRT Terms for convenience for any reason at any time upon thirty (30) days’ prior written notice to the other party.
6.3 Survival
Upon termination of these LRT Terms, all rights granted under these LRT Terms will immediately terminate. The following sections will survive termination of these LRT Terms: all definitions, Sections 1.3 (“Relationship to Other LinkedIn API Terms”), 2.3 (“Monitoring your Use of the Research Tools”), 3 (“Use of Research Tools and Research Data”), 4 (“Storage of Research Data”), 5 (“Distribution of Research Work Product”), 6.3 (“Survival”), and 7 (“Miscellaneous”).
7. Miscellaneous
7.1 Applicable Law
If any provision of these Terms is found to be illegal, unenforceable, or otherwise not in compliance with applicable law (including the Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, DSA)), the unenforceable provision will be modified so as to render it enforceable. If a given provision cannot be so modified, it will be severed and the remaining provisions of these Terms will not be affected in any way.
7.2 Communications
You agree to receive communications from LinkedIn relating to the LRT Program via e-mail, regular mail, and/or postings on the Research Program Sites, including communications regarding your access to the LRT Program, the Research Tools, and your Research Project.
7.3 Publicity
Any marketing, advertising, or promotional announcement, material, press release, blog, or any other communication to third parties relating to the Research Tools, Research Data, or your Research Project that includes any of the other party’s Brand Features is subject to that party’s prior written approval (email acceptable). For clarity, this restriction shall not, in any way, limit LinkedIn’s license to your Research Work Product (including any of your Brand Features therein) under Section 5.1 (License to your Research Work Product).
7.4 Non-Exclusivity and Non-Confidentiality
You acknowledge that LinkedIn may support other researchers with research projects that may be similar to or competitive with your Research Project and LinkedIn is not, in any way, restricted from: (a) granting such researchers access to any Research Tool or Research Data; or (b) disclosing information relating to your Research Project to any third party. You further acknowledge that LinkedIn is not obligated (under these Terms or any applicable law) to treat any information regarding your Research Project (including your Research Work Product) as confidential.
7.5 General Terms
These Terms (including the Research Tools Documentation) supersede any and all prior agreements, proposals (oral and written), understandings, representations, conditions, warranties, covenants, and other communications between the parties which relate to the subject matter of these Terms. Where written approval is required under these Terms; (a) such approval must be by a duly authorized representative of the consenting party; and (b) LinkedIn's approval of an access request (for any Research Tool(s)) submitted via the Developer Site does not meet this requirement.
